That concludes our "I'm the Boss of Me" Community Sessions. What a season it's been!

Swipe to read about our first season of Community Sessions of our school-based programs.

As this season comes to an end, our education team is left feeling extremely appreciative to our supporters, youths and caregivers who signed up and showed up, and last but not least, the places that made space for ITBOM to be presented!

We hope to be back in schools next year, but until then, we remain dedicated to educating youth and their families on consent, boundaries, and violence prevention. One way or another our presentations will continue and we look forward to seeing you there!

In honour of Counselling and Psychotherapy Month, SSAIC would like to spotlight our incredible counsellors! 🤩

Meet Jen (she/her)! She began her SSAIC journey in 2019 as a volunteer for our “I’m the Boss of Me” youth program. Not long after she joined our Education and Outreach team and has been here ever since! Jen has her Bachelor of Social Work and is a Registered Social Worker.

We asked her:

What drew you to a career in counselling?
“I’ve always had a strong interest in mental health, trauma-related advocacy and support work. My personal experiences and involvement with SSAIC inspired me to want to help other survivors along their healing paths. Once I’d completed my BSW in 2023, I made the bittersweet move from the education team into a counselling role.”

Why do you enjoy being a counsellor at SSAIC?
“I’m so grateful and honoured to sit with and walk alongside survivors on their journey. Through highs and lows, tears and laughter, tragedies and celebrations, I hope to create a space of trust, safety, inclusivity, compassion, comfort, and healing. I also love and appreciate every member of our amazing team. I am proud to work for an agency whose work is so strongly rooted in feminist, trauma-informed, and client-centred frameworks.”

What animal do you relate to the most?
"Easy, absolutely a whippet (a dog breed)… gentle, patient, and affectionate, competitive but kind, adaptable and quiet but highly strung with a true need to feel understood by their humans, graceful but also quirky and chaotic, They love to sleep, are emotionally intuitive, sensitive, determined, charming, weird, and always cold."

Community Impact

Since 1975, SSAIC exists to be the primary provider of community leadership in addressing sexualized violence. We provide counselling and survivor services to survivors of sexualized violence and education and prevention services to the Saskatoon community.

Financial Breakdown

All of our services are 100% free to survivors of sexualized violence, a model we’ve been dedicated to keeping for over four decades of service. All donations go directly toward funding programming and services for survivors.

Our Philosophy

SSAIC aspires to be part of a community in which individuals impacted by sexualized violence are believed and offered services to assist their healing, perpetrators of sexualized violence are held accountable for their actions, and future victims are protected. Together, we can mobilize to share responsibility for addressing sexualized violence and ensure that coordinated and evidence-based services related to sexualized violence are fully resourced.

Sexualized violence education and services are provided in the community to raise awareness, reduce stigmatization, and influence social and systemic change.
