The Friendship Inn has managed to stay open throughout the pandemic, although it has required a lot of creative planning, and many different solutions depending on the capacity of the staff and volunteers. During the first week of December, meals are being served in take-out boxes to guests who wait eagerly in the lunchtime sunshine. Executive Director, Sandra Kary, pictured above, explains that, “Up to 1000 meals are served a day, and the generosity of donors is crucial to this service.” In December, The Friendship Inn runs their annual Fill the Plate campaign. As it gets colder and colder outside, the Inn will continue to serve meals, and is working hard to have inside dining again.
Thanks to Nutrien, cash donations to the Friendship Inn during the month of December will be matched, up to $100,000, as part of the Inn’s annual Fill the Plate campaign. Nutrien’s commitment also supports the Friendship Inn’s Christmas Day meal for guests.
Every donation to the Fill the Plate campaign–big or small–enables the Inn to serve meals from their beautiful location on Avenue G and 20th in Saskatoon, and for them to offer services with respect and no questions asked well into the new year.
“Nutrien inspires people to give and to help create a place at the table for everyone in our community,” says Heather Sully, the Inn’s Board Chair. “One of the things I love about Nutrien: it’s a global organization with a mandate to feed the world that starts by putting food on the table for Saskatoon families. The Friendship Inn would not be able to sustain this level of service for children, youth, adults and senior citizens without Nutrien and generous support from the whole community.”
Individuals or companies wishing to donate to Fill the Plate can do so in person at the Friendship Inn, by phone, mail or online at www.friendshipinn.ca
“Our purpose at Nutrien is to grow our world from the ground up and that starts right here in our community,” says Ken Seitz, Executive Vice President and CEO of Potash at Nutrien. “We are thankful to partner with organizations like the Friendship Inn who provide meals and other key services to those in need.”
During December, daily Fill the Plate sponsors will be announced on Rawlco Radio and Saskatoon Media Group stations.
