Donors are needed every day. To ensure we can continue to meet the needs of patients in Canada, we need everyone who is healthy to book and keep their blood donation appointments.

Donors can contribute to Canadian Blood Services through a variety of ways beyond donating blood. Make a personal gift, launch an online fundraiser, sign up to donate stem cells, plasma, or platelets, or volunteer. Go to blood.ca to learn more.

More about us

Community Impact

Blood and blood products are a critical part of everyday medical care including major surgeries, medical procedures, cancer treatments and managing diseases and disorders. Canadian Blood Services, along with our donors, are a vital link in Canada’s lifeline, helping many Canadians wake up healthy each day here in Saskatoon, across the Province, and throughout the Country.

Financial Breakdown

Canadian Blood Services was incorporated in 1998 under the Canada Corporations Act. In 2014, articles of continuance were filed to transition to the Not-for-Profit Corporations Act. We function as an independent, not-for-profit organization that operates at arm’s length from government. The provincial and territorial ministers of health provide most of the funding for Canadian Blood Services’ operations and act as the organization’s corporate members.

Our Philosophy

We are Canada’s biological lifeline. We are the connection between the sincere generosity of donors and the heartfelt appreciation of recipients, between the profound discoveries of science and the joyful restoration of health. As such, we are nationally responsible for a secure system of life essentials for transfusion or transplantation that’s reliable, accessible and sustainable.

Programs and Services

Together, with donors, recipients, employees, partners and volunteers, we are Canada’s lifeline. Our role is to provide lifesaving products and services in transfusion and transplantation for Canadian patients, and to safeguard Canada’s systems of life essentials in blood, plasma, stem cells, and organs and tissues.
